Check out the blog “In and Around Fitchburg, Mass” and Friday’s review of our all new First Thursdays!
A special thank you to all the performers, businesses, and visitors involved in the First Thursdays event. The weather gorgeous, which served as a foreshadow to the great event that lay ahead. The opening of Chaibo was a spectacular event, including a ribbon cutting in the presence of several state and city officials. The presence of outside businesses like Country Good’s BBQ, Il Ricordi, and Parkhill Pizza (among others!) brought even more vitality to the downtown area. Performances in the Wine Cellar, Espresso, Rollstone Studios, Faith United Church, Design at 639, and the Armory (again, among others!) brought music and smiles to everyone who experienced them.
Now, planning begins for the June First Thursday celebration. Next month will have a Green theme, showing Fitchburg’s environmentally friendly side. If you missed out on May 6th, make sure you don’t miss out on June 3rd!

One of the art galleries on Main Street, Design at 639 has a unique and intriguing energy. It is an art gallery geared toward home furnishings. Specifically, they have a variety of sculptures, photography, paintings, furniture, and other exciting art works. The selection at Design at 639 ranges from ceramic and glass, to wearable art and home accessories.
In addition to all the wonderful pieces they have for purchase and viewing, the gallery also offers classes. Currently, they’re offering a ‘Trash to Treasures’ class where people can bring in old furniture and learn to turn it into something fun and new.
Design at 639 holds events and activities open to the Fitchburg community. Performances such as live music and artists talks are examples of successful past events they’ve had.
As part of the First Thursdays program, they welcome the public to come in and take a look at the art work, as well as enjoy live music and other performances occurring the first Thursday of every month. On the May 6th First Thursday, come and enjoy music by Norton Guitars inventor/builder Hugh & friends from 6-8 PM, and will be featuring a special guest food vendor, Country Good Barbecue from 5-7 PM.

Located at 610 Main Street, the Fitchburg Public Library offers something for everyone. The library has events such as concerts, visits from authors, book sales and story time for kids. They also have a Book Club, Knit and Crochet Club and Lego Club. The library offers tons of free movies, music, computers for public use, magazines, newspapers and, of course- books!
The Fitchburg Public Library has been involved with First Thursdays every month since it first began. Their First Thursdays events often include activities with crafts, stories and sometimes food! This year’s theme is “traveling to other countries.” On Thursday, May 6th you are invited to join the library as they ‘visit’ Mexico with crafts and activities to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. This event is from 5:30pm – 6:30pm and is free and open to all ages! Megan, who is a Girl Scout, will lead the event. Hope to see you there!

The Rabbit Hole is a book, music and novelty store located on Main Street. The store consists of two floors, with a winding staircase leading from one to the other, which provides the store with enough space for both merchandise and community events.
Downstairs you can find a wide variety of books and graphic novels. The book selection extends to the second floor, where vinyl records and CDs can be found, as well as posters, games and other trinkets.
The Rabbit Hole embodies a very welcoming atmosphere, offering customers a place to sit and read, or just hang out. This same space is used for all of their events, which include open-mic nights, poetry readings, talks from authors, and many different activities planned for children.
Exciting examples of their upcoming events include live music (ranging from folk singers to local hardcore bands), a children’s’ poetry reading, and Texas Hold ‘em lessons.
The Rabbit Hole holds some of First Thursday’s most exciting events. For the May 6th First Thursday, they have invited an indie rock band called the Bella Birds to play music from 7-8 PM. No matter what they have going on, First Thursday activities held at the Rabbit Hole always encompass liveliness, interaction and a positive energy.
